PhonoLeaf

Terms of Service

Effective July 22, 2026
Not legal advice, and not yet reviewed by a lawyer This document was drafted to plainly describe how PhonoLeaf actually works. Before relying on it for legal protection, especially once the app leaves testing and reaches the public, it's worth having an actual lawyer review it — particularly the liability and jurisdiction sections, which are written generically below.

By using PhonoLeaf ("the app"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

What the app does

PhonoLeaf connects to a folder in your own Google Drive, reads the epub files it finds there, and reads them aloud using on-device or your device's built-in text-to-speech. The app has no server or backend — it runs entirely on your device and talks directly to Google's own services.

Your account and content

Acceptable use

Please don't use the app to attempt to disrupt, reverse-engineer for malicious purposes, or gain unauthorized access to any service it connects to (including Google's APIs or Open Library).

No warranty

PhonoLeaf is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including, without limitation, warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement. We don't guarantee the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every device or every book file.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the developer of PhonoLeaf is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising from your use of the app. The app is a free, independently-developed reading tool, not a commercial service with guaranteed uptime or support.

Third-party services

The app depends on services it doesn't control — principally Google Drive/Sign-In, and Open Library for book metadata. Their availability, terms, and privacy practices are their own; see Google's Terms of Service for the Google-related portion of this.

Changes to the app or these terms

The app is under active development and may change, and features may be added, altered, or removed. If these terms change materially, the updated version will be posted at this same URL with a new effective date.

Termination

You may stop using the app and revoke its access to your Google account at any time (Settings → Sign out, or directly via your Google Account permissions). We may also discontinue the app at any time.
